The Texas Attorney General filed a lawsuit against the tech giant on Thursday, accusing it of violating a state consumer protection law by capturing millions of users' facial and voice data without their consent.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed in federal district court in Texas, the company took in data from millions of Texans who used its products.

The Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act is a state law that has been violated bygoogle.

The lawsuit alleges features such as face grouping, which creates albums of certain people based on facial recognition records, are both "invasive" and "dangerous" because voice and facial data cannot be erased or replaced.

Civil penalties are sought for each violation.

The company is able to enhance its face scanning abilities due to the data it has, according to the author.
