There are a lot of superstars who own a team.
Rich Kleiman is the manager of the Major League Pickleball expansion team.
Kleiman said in a news release that 35V is committed to investing in the future of sports and emerging opportunities. We can't wait to build this team and elevate the league to unprecedented heights. The interest in the sport was a natural fit for a fan of the sport.
The expansion team will be managed by Thirty Five Ventures as a full-time venture.
The Brooklyn Nets star forward said the sport became a passion after Kleiman got him onto the court to play for himself.
Steve Kuhn, the CEO and founder of the Major League Pickleball, said in the release that Kevin Durant, Rich Kleiman, and 35V are going to be game changing partners. They bring passion and expertise to help us grow. They have done basketball for years and are excited about bringing pickleball to underserved communities.
Kevin Love and Draymond Green are two of the owners of an expansion team. Tom Brady and Kim Clijsters are part of an ownership group. Drew is an investor in the league.
The MLP will double its annual events to six and expand from 12 teams to 16 in the next five years. The prize money is expected to go up next season.
According to the Boardroom video, the next step is to find a city for the team to play in and represent, and to find the right players for their vision.
"We really, really want to leave our mark on how hard our team is going to play and how successful we're going to be as a group," he said.
