Ultra low cost carrier startup Avelo Air is setting up a base in Delaware and this is noteworthy for one major reason.
There is no commercial air service in Delaware. Airlines just haven't been able to make the economics work at the airport that has commercial service
Frontier Airlines has been the only airline that flies to the city. The airline pulled out of the market as they claimed it wasn't a profitable one.
Frontier started flights to Wilmington in February of 2021. The airline ended service in June of 2022.
When President Biden travels to the airport, it's the most exciting service the airport has to offer.
Avelo Air is an ultra-low cost carrier. The airline promised to operate routes that other airlines wouldn't operate, and I think this is the best example of that.
Avelo Air is opening another base in Delaware. At least 35 jobs are expected to be created in the local community when the airline bases a Boeing plane there.
Avelo Air plans to start flying from Delaware to other airports in February of 2020.
The airline wants to get people from the entire Delaware Valley, as well as parts of Pennsylvania and South Jersey.
It is great to see an airline add service to airports that don't normally have it. Frontier Airlines had worse luck than Avelo Air. One strength for Avelo Air will be that they are happy to offer just a couple of days per week, while Frontier is more focused on markets that can sustain daily service.

Since the airport and state don't currently have any commercial air service, Avelo Air is setting up a base in the area. I hope Avelo Air has better luck.
