• "The Green Council" is the ninth episode of the first season of "House of the Dragon"

  • Some changes have been made to the story of House Targaryen's war.

  • Rhaenys killed a bunch of people in the dragonpit.

Rhaenys burst through the floor of the dragonpit at the end of the ninth episode of "House of the Dragon" on Sunday. Despite killing hundreds of random King's Landing citizens, Rhaenys chose not to kill the newly crowned King Aegon II and his supporters.

Some people think that Rhaenys could have ended the war before it began.

If you don't know the context of "Fire and Blood," there is a layer of strategy that may not be clear. The Rhaenys sequence was created for House Targaryen's fictional history in order to tell a more complete story.

'Fire and Blood' is giving more characterization and nuance to the aftermath of Viserys' death

The story readers are told in George R.R. Martin's "Fire and Blood" comes from many different sources. The events presented in "House of the Dragon" will lead to tragedy. The power of House Targaryen was revived in the earlier series of "Game ofThrones" after they lost their dragons.

This all has to do with Rhaenys.

Otto and Queen Alicent are competing for control of the situation. The people of King's Landing don't know that King Viserys is dead.

Alicent wants to send terms to Rhaenyra and crown Aegon as soon as possible and hope for a truce between their families.

The defense of Rhaenyra and Daemon at Dragonstone and the bonus of Rhaenyra's claim to the Iron Throne by public decree of the late King make both of these ambitious plans.

Rhaenys is the only one who knows what is going on and can relay the true order of events to Rhaenyra and Daemon and their children.

Rhaenys and Otto were both executed for trying to tell Rhaenyra that her father had passed away. Rhaenys' life was at risk if she didn't bend the knee. She used her dragon to find an out.

But guess who knows none of this? The actual people who live in the Seven Kingdoms

Viserys died in the first day after taking his last breath.

The lords and ladies of the court either swore an oath to Viserys or decided that a son should inherit the throne over a daughter.

The Hand of the King claims that Viserys changed his mind and wanted Aegon to rule instead of Rhaenyra.

Aegon's crowning is brought into doubt by Rhaenys, who reminds the people how powerful dragons are. The dragons are capable of mass murder at a moment's notice, and when they are with the Targaryen, they'll serve their orders.

Rhaenys brought the story of the family's divide into public view by crashing into the dragonpit like that. Rhaenys wanted the people of the Seven Kingdoms to follow in the footsteps of the rightful Queen Rhaenyra.

Rhaenys made a decision to not kill the newly crowned King Aegon II or Alicent and Helaena and the other members of her own family.

Rhaenys doesn't want the public story to be that he is a kinslayer and Rhaenyra just wanted power. Rhaenys wants to show her strength, give Alicent one more chance to do the right thing, and then get out of King's Landing safely.

How passages in 'Fire and Blood' also give context to the strategy around Aegon's coronation at the dragonpit

Public perception is a factor in wars and politics. "Riders went forth on pale horses to spread the word to the people of King's Landing, crying 'King Viserys is dead, long live King Aegon'", Martin says in "Fire and Blood."

Some people cried while others cheered, according to the book. A voice cried out, 'Long live our queen', as most of the smallfolk stared in silence.

In this fictional history book, Martin says that the dragonpit seated 80,000 people, four times as many as in the real Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The book says that the pit's thick walls, strong roof, and towering bronze doors made it defensible.

"House of the Dragon" pokes a big hole into this logic with the shocking scene of Rhaenys bursting out of the floor, putting the Greens on their back feet and giving another win to Team Rhaenyra"

The episode shows us that Aegon is a bad choice for King. He's more interested in watching children fight to the death and get drunk than he is in ruling.

The actual person Viserys wanted crowned was Rhaenyra, a traditional Targaryen queen who served in Small Council meetings from a young age and was appointed heir at the age of 14.

Rhaenyra has done a lot to turn public opinion against her, including siring bastards in a much more public way than Aegon and passing them off as trueborn. She is said to have killed her husband in order to marry her uncle in the tradition of incest that most believers of the Faith don't agree with.

The opinion of Team Rhaenyra would be swayed if Rhaenys had killed her family members. Kinslaying is a type of moral flagrance in the show.

Murdering hundreds of innocent citizens of your city is something that is happening. Many people didn't think the end of the episode was satisfying.

I don't believe that the deaths of all those people will be marked by the end of the story.

The finale of the first season of " House of the Dragon" will be aired on Sunday. There is an hour and a half later. The breakdown of the best details you might have missed can be found here.
