The former Vice President wouldn't say if he would vote for Donald Trump in the next election.
The event was held at Georgetown University. He was asked by a student if he would vote for Trump if his boss became the GOP nominee.
"Well, there might be someone else I'd prefer more," he said.
The Republican Party is going to sort out leadership, said the former vice president.
For the next 20 days, my focus has been on the elections.
We will be thinking about the future after that. He said he would keep the student posted.
The vice president has not said he is running for president. According to a CNN report in July, a former Pence adviser said that the vice president wanted the presidency himself.
The comments were made by Troye when Pence went to Capitol Hill. He was praised by Republicans for defending the Constitution on the day of the Capitol riot.
After failing to get Trump to overturn the 2020 election, the relationship between the two men has deteriorated.
White House aides told the January 6 panel in June that Trump had a heated call with the vice president. According to aides' testimony to the panel, Trump called his vice president a "pussy" and swore at him during the call.
When he broke with his boss to certify the vote, many Trump supporters turned against him. During the Capitol riot, some put up gallows and chanted "hang Mike Pence", actions that Trump privately expressed support for. During the attack, Trump said that he did not have the courage to do what he should have.
He stood by his decision not to help. He told the Federalist Society that Trump was wrong to think he had the right to change the outcome of the election. The idea of one man choosing the president was called "un-American" by Pence.
In November 2021, the vice president said that he was guided by the bible and James Madison when he certified the vote. "My oath of office is to defend the Constitution of the United States and I keep it even when it hurts," he said.
After the Capitol riot, the vice president distanced himself from the president. The Washington Post reported in June that the vice president has not spoken to the president in more than a year. The advisers to the former vice president told The Post that he had turned down several invitations to visit the president at Mar-a-Lago.
The representatives for Trump did not reply immediately. Insider asked a spokesman for the vice president if he would run for president in 2024.
