A fence on the Nordic country's border with Russia is being proposed by the border guard.

Prime Minister Sanna Marin told reporters at the legislature that it was a question of securing proper surveillance of the eastern border.

The Finns' border with Russia is the longest of any European Union member and the Finns are concerned about large-scale and illegal immigration.

The fence is up to 260 kilometers long in total and covers areas that have been identified as potential risks for large-scale migration from Russia.

The main parts of the fence would be built in southeasternFinland, where most border traffic to and from Russia takes place.

The construction of the fence will take up to four years and will cost hundreds of millions of dollars. There is support for the project from both sides of the political spectrum.

A pilot section of the fence will be decided soon and built quickly, but the decision of the entire fence project may be put off until the next government takes office in April of 2023.

That's right.
