According to sources with knowledge of the discussions, Donald Trump's legal team is considering allowing federal agents to return to Mar-A-Lago to conduct a supervised search.
According to CNN, the search is one of several options being considered by Trump's lawyers.
It would be an abrupt change in approach for Trump, who has attacked the Justice Department's investigation into his alleged mishandling of classified records as a politically motivated sham, in some cases suggesting without evidence that the FBI may have planted some of the documents recovered from Mar-A-Lago.
The FBI recovered more than 100 classified documents during an August 8 raid at Mar-A-Lago but Justice Department officials have reportedly told Trump's team they believe he still possess classified documents.
All the White House records that Trump brought with him to Mar-A-Lago were declassified.

The Mar-A-Lago records have been at the center of a legal battle between Trump and the DOJ. A federal judge granted Trump's request for an independent "special master" to review the records in order to determine if they should be turned over to prosecutors. Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie is only allowed to review unclassified records after an appeals court excluded classified records from the review. Dearie has a November 12 deadline to complete his review but he scolded both prosecutors and Trump's attorneys in a conference call Tuesday, saying they have not given him enough information to carry out his duties The beef is not located. Dearie told the lawyers that she needed some meat.
The Justice Department believes they have enough evidence to charge Trump with obstruction of justice, according to a report. The DOJ and Attorney General aren't expected to make a decision on charges against Trump until at least Christmas.
