The center said that it's what the team wants, even though Tom Brady was shown on TV directing an expletive-laden rant at his offensive line.
"Everyone can call it what they want, but I want nothing else from a quarterback than that," said Hainsey, who is in his first year as the starting center. He wouldn't be who he is today if he sat over there and didn't help us.
I really like that from him. We all love that from him. It looks weird on TV, but that's football. He's the best there is, and he's a great leader.
The first half ended with an unsuccessful two minute drill. Brady was sacked twice in the first half and fumbled on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. Brady failed to connect with Perriman on a dig route on third-and-11.
Brady yelled, "You're so much better than the way you're playing!" after getting up from the bench.
Brady thinks that it's a bad day when there's more f-bombs than touchdown. That was not a good day. They used to keep the F-bombs out of sight but now it's for the world to see. That's the way it is, right?
Brady said that if he doesn't feel like we're living up to the expectations then that's his job. I am a quarterback." I don't expect the tackle to do it. The running back isn't expected to do it. I don't expect the receiver to do it I expect myself to do it. I call the plays in the huddle.
My job is that. To get us going and to get us to come together. There are many ways to do it. You do a lot of positive encouragement.
Sometimes it's getting on people and trying to raise the level, the sense of urgency, and raising my voice and trying to create a different vibration for the entire offense. That is what you are attempting to do.
"I love that from him. I know we all love that from him. It might look weird on TV, but that's football. That's what you want from great teammates and great leaders, and he's the best there is." Robert Hainsey, on Tom Brady's tirade at Bucs' O-line on Sunday
When Pro Bowler Ryan Jensen suffered a knee injury at the beginning of training camp, he took over the starting role, and he said there are no hard feelings.
He loves learning from him. It's a really cool opportunity for me because I can pick his brain and figure out what he wants and how he sees things. I enjoy that a great deal.
Three of the five offensive linemen were selected to the Pro Bowl last year, with the group considered the core of the team. Marpet stopped working this off-season. Alex Cappa, who was named a Pro Bowl alternate, signed with Cincinnati. Hainsey, a converted right tackle out of Notre Dame, and Goedeke, a converted right tackle out of Central Michigan, are both rookies in the league. The trade for Mason was with Brady.
In 2021, the pass blocking win rate was 57.9%, but it went to 49.7% in 2022. Brady has only been sacked nine times this year, but he is having to get the ball out quicker to protect himself.
Handling pressure up the middle has been a weakness of Brady's throughout his career. Goedeke has surrendered more sacks than any other guard in the league. His pass block win rate is second worst among guards and his 32 first pressures are the most given up. Some difficult times have been experienced by Hainsey. His pass blocking win rate is tied for fifth- lowest among centers and his six first pressures are tied for second-most among centers.
The coach was asked if the coaching staff was considering making personnel changes, but he said it would be up to the coaching staff to help the group improve.
We are happy with the guys we have. We just have to be better. We need to do better. It's always a guy here and a guy there, whether it's a guy on the offensive line, a ball outside, or someone swims us and makes it look worse than it is. There is a different guy every time.
We need to be more detailed as a coaching staff. As players, we have to be better. It's a bunch of people working together. We will change things if we have to. We will look at that if we have to do something from a player's perspective. We're trying to figure out how we can improve in those areas.
