The New York Yankees made several changes as they announced their 26 man roster for the ALCS.
Both teams went with an even split between pitchers and position players with 13 apiece.
The Yankees chose to include one more pitcher for the ALCS, one less than they had for the division series against Cleveland, which they won.
A trade-deadline acquisition, who has been on the injured list since mid-September, was included on the 13 man pitching staff. The Yankees acquired Montas before the August 2 trade deadline, but he didn't fare well in his first eight starts.
The Yankees rely on Montas' experience against the Astros, with the 29-year-old having pitched the last six seasons with the Oakland A's. In 15 career games against Houston, Montas is 8-5 with a 3.40 earned run average, including a 3-2 record and 3.86 earned run average at Minute Maid Park.
Lucas Luetge, who was on the active roster but did not pitch in the playoffs, was left out. The club went with Greg Weissert instead of Ron Marinaccio due to his shin injury.
Veteran utility man Marwin Gonzalez, who only saw limited action in the previous round, was left off the ALCS roster.
He has not been able to play in the playoffs because of a foot injury. Oswald Peraza was chosen as a healthier reserve option by the Yankees, despite the fact that LeMahieu was hoping to be activated after doing baseball activities while rehabbing.

Oswaldo Cabrera is likely to be demoted to the outfield since the Yankees did not add another player to the roster. In the fifth game of the division series against the Guardians, a collision in shallow left field resulted in a left knee injury for Hicks, who was forced out at second base.
Tim Locastro made the roster once again, and will be an option in the outfielder after playing 26 games in the field this season. The outfielder has played 37 games in the playoffs.
Also an option will be Matt Carpenter, who was activated for the ALCS after being out with a foot injury. Carpenter, who has been limited to a lefty bat off the bench, has said that he would like to play the outfield.
The Astros used the same roster that they used against Seattle in the division series. There was only one change in Baker's roster, and that was the addition of one more pitcher, who was left out of the outfielders' roster.
The Astros will face a right-handed lineup in this series against New York, and the pitcher who made his first career postseason roster is Pedro Martinez.
