Sundial Foods is making a mark on one of sports bars favorites: wings.
Chicken wings that look like the traditional cut of meat have been created by the company. They met in U.C. Berkeley.
Deng said that they were assigned to solve the problem of the alternative meat product. We came up with the idea of putting a barrier on all sides to increase juiciness.
The same fried food meat-eaters know, but with a plant-based skin, meat and bone. The technology they use mimics a whole cut of meat with the same texture and structure. It contains more fiber and less saturated fat than chicken but has the same amount ofProtein.
They were able to test their formula for the plant-based wings in Switzerland. There was a test launch of a co- branded product with Garden Gourmet in more than 40 retail outlets.
After raising a $4 million seed round in 2021, they are currently raising a Series A and plan to expand into retail early next year.
Sundial Foods began with restaurants. There are two places in San Francisco where you can find their wings. Sundial's wings are being sold for $8 for two at Farming Hope, which is three times the price of traditional wings.
The demand is so high that we are moving to full scale manufacturing. We have a manufacturing partner that we will be working with for the next six to eight months.
Initially, the plan is to focus on local retailers and work on getting the volume, packaging and other items right. As they approach full-scale manufacturing, the co- founders say they will work on meeting the price parity of chicken wings.
