Despite making significant strides in recent years, battery technology is still as stiff as a board.

The era of inflexible portable power may be coming to an end with the introduction of bendy batteries. The company is going to announce a $7.2 million seed round today, which is an oversubscribed round.

The round was led by Union SquareVentures and Energy RevolutionVentures with participation from other companies.

David Mackanic and Joe Papp saw an opening for a flexiblepolymer that could give batteries new properties and also offer a quicker way to market than the automotive route.

It takes a lot of time and effort to get into something like an auto. I have to think differently about how we bring this to market if I want to make a difference.
