The co-chief executive of the company behind the largest mobile messaging app has resigned.

He felt a heavy burden of responsibility over the incident.

The messaging, mobile banking and gaming services were shut down for more than eight hours after a fire damaged the server.

He apologized for the outage and said that he would lead the emergency disaster task force.
