Peter Boockvar digs in on today's market action

After the major averages posted a second straight day of gains, the futures of the techMARK surged.

The futures tied to the 100 increased in value. The S&P 500 futures were up 0.7%.

All three of the major stock averages finished the day higher. The S&P 500 gained 1.1% and the tech-laden index added 0.9%.

After the results of the third quarter were reported, the extended trading moved. In the extended trading, shares surged as much as 14.0%.

As investors worry about a recession, some Wall Street analysts are lowering their earnings projections. Gene Goldman, chief investment officer at Cetera Investment Management, said that the market could struggle with downward revisions in the economy.

He said that the S&P 500's earnings estimates are too high. Slow economic growth will put downward pressure on earnings. Earnings could pressure markets for a while.

Next week will see tech earnings in full swing, but IBM andTesla will report on Wednesday. It will be later in the week.

Housing starts are expected on wednesday. The Federal Reserve will release its report on the current state of the economy.

70% of the S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings so far this season have posted positive surprises.

The market is bracing for a good amount of negative news in earnings season due to the lowered expectations.

In an environment where the market is braced for volatility, turmoil, slowing growth, declines and a challenging environment, companies on average are doing okay.
