Jim Irsay: I believe there's merit to oust Dan Snyder (0:40)

The owner of the Colts, Jim Irsay, thinks that the owner of the Commanders should be removed. There is a time and a place for it.

5:09 PM ET

For the first time, an NFL owner publicly called for serious consideration to remove Washington's Dan Synder from their ownership of the league.

Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, held an interview at the fall meetings Tuesday and called the actions of the owner, especially with workplace misconduct, grave.

Irsay said from the lobby of the Conrad New York Downtown that he believed there was merit in removing him as theCommanders' owner. It is thought that he should be removed.

The Mary Jo White investigations into Washington's years of alleged workplace misconduct and financial improprieties are at the root of the issue, according to Irsay. The matter is being investigated by White on behalf of the league.

This is the first time that a vote at the NFL level has been required.

There will be no vote at Tuesday's meetings and owners need to hear more about the investigation.

Private investigators were used to obtain "dirt" from the past of other owners, according to a recent investigation.

Irsay said that some of the things he's heard doesn't represent the team. I would like the American public to know what we are about. It's in the best interest of the National Football League that we look at this and deal with it.

As soon as the winter meetings are over, a vote could come, according to Irsay.

He said that they don't stand for that in the league. Owners have been painted incorrect a lot of the time. We're not interested in that.

Results of current investigations will cause Irsay to see Snyder in a better light, according to a Commander's spokesman.

It is not surprising that Mr. Irsay chose to make statements publicly based on false information in the media. It is unfortunate that Mr. Irsay went public with his statement while the investigation is still going on. Over the past two years, the Commanders have made great strides. We are confident that Mr. Irsay will conclude that there is no reason for the team to be sold. They will not.

According to Irsay, the issues have been going on for a long, long time. The team's history was being investigated by a congressional committee at the time. The hearing was private.

White's investigations are still going on. Irsay said owners should be updated more thoroughly.

Irsay said that the owners have complete authority to remove him from his seat.

At the conclusion of Tuesday's meetings, the commissioner is going to address the media.

Irsay said that this was put before them. We want to be an example from what we do.
