The next major Sims game is in the works, nearly a decade after The Sims 4 launched. Project Rene was announced at a Sims livestream event. It sounds very early in development and far from release but the company did give a few early details.

The official description is here.

The game will stay true to what The Sims has always been while pushing to evolve how those Sims think and behave. It will reimagine The Sims with even more ways to play, tools to encourage creativity, and the ability to tell meaningful stories. With Project Rene, players will have the choice to play solo or collaborate with others, and will have the ability to play their game across supported devices.

The plan after the early tease is to release continual updates. The start of our journey over the next few years was described by the vice president of franchise creative for The Sims. She said that they are pushing the boundaries to create new experiences and that the Sims is compelling for generations of players. As we progress on the game, we will have more to share.

It is an important time for the franchise. The base game of The Sims 4, which was the first game in the series, will be free starting today.
