The new Apple TV 4K has a lower starting price of $129 and will include the A15 Bionic chip. The entry-level model of the streaming box has 64 gigabytes of storage compared to the previous model's 128 gigabytes.
The new price point puts Apple's box in line with competitors like Amazon and Roku, which starts at less than $200.
A common language for smart home devices to communicate in your home without relying on a cloud connection is provided by Matter. At launch, it will include smart sensors, smart lighting, smart plugs and switches, smart thermostats, connected locks, and media devices.
If you buy a smart home device that has the Matter logo on it, you should be able to use it with any Matter compatible device and platform. Devices compatible with matter should be available by the end of the year.
We expect to see updates on the smart home platforms that are signed on to support Matter over the next few months.
The base model lacks a few features compared to the more expensive model. The $129 model does not include a Thread radio for better smart home control, but the $149 model does.
The previous Apple TV 4K supported the same standard as the new models. It will allow you to get the full experience for most of the content you are viewing.
It isn't worth the upgrade if you have the Apple TV 4K.
One of the most exciting changes is that the remote, which features the same controls and general design as the previous model, now charges via USB-C instead of Lighting, another loss for the shrinking pool of devices using Apple's proprietary connection.
There is a chip upgrade, but Apple doesn't specify whether it's the model of A15 found in the iPhone 13 or the iPhone 14 and that's not going to be a big deal. The A12 chip was used in the Apple TV review. With Apple pushing it as a gaming device, it was notable that it didn't have the latest and greatest. The new box is definitely more modern than the old one.
The Apple TV will be available on November 4th.
