Duck DuckGo is testing its web browsing app for Mac users. The app was announced as a closed alpha back in April and is now available for all Mac users.

The desktop browser has the same built-in protections we've seen in DuckDuckGo's mobile apps, including third-party tracking, cookie pop-up protection, and its popular one-click data clearing 'Fire Button'.

The browser has added some features since it was first announced. Duck Player is a feature that protects users from targeted ads and cookies while watching videos on the internet. Most YouTube ads were removed as a result of testing because they wouldn't be personalized, according to Duck DuckGo. Content watched through Duck Player won't contribute to your advertising on YouTube.

A new bookmarks bar and pinned tabs have been added to address feedback from early testing. DuckDuckGo has a Cookie Consent Pop-Up Manager that can be used on 50 percent of websites to spare users from annoying pop-up messages. You can use the app to protect your inbox with email tracker blocking.

Mac's tracker blocking has been improved by Duck DuckGo. The browser will now clear the whitespace left behind by the missing ads, giving users a cleaner workspace without the need for a dedicated ad blocker.

According to DuckDuckGo, the Mac browser uses less data than the chrome browser.

The rendering engine used bySafari allows DuckDuckGo for Mac to use about 60 percent less data than Chrome. You can import bookmarks and passwords from your existing browser into DuckDuckGo for Mac, with additional password protection provided via the integration of Bitwarden, an open-sourced password manager. This feature will be activated within the DuckDuckGo browser settings in the near future. The universal autofill feature is supported by DuckDuckGo for mac.

DuckDuckGo said that a Windows version of the application is still in development and is currently being tested. There will be a private wait listed alpha in the coming months.
