The new flagship car from Cadillac will launch late next year with all of the futuristic bells and whistles and will start at $300,000.
The GM luxury brand also has a flagship called the Celestiq. The brand will transition to a full battery-electric lineup by the year 2030.
The Celestiq will cost 10 times more than an entry level Cadillac when it is built by GM.
What will customers get when they pay six figures? The all-electric sedan will feature a 600-hp, dual- motor, all-wheel-drive setup that can travel from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, and use the same Ultium platform that will underpin GM's other future EV. The sedan will have a 200 kilowatt DC fast charging system that can add 78 miles in 10 minutes.
There are other features you didn't know about.
The biggest piece of automotive glass in the world will be used by the Cadillac Celestiq. The all-glass roof is double the thickness of a high-grade acoustic windshield and uses a type of film invented by Research Frontiers.
The film, which is already used in the roofs of certain models from McLaren, Mercedes-Benz and others, allows each passenger to adjust the overhead lighting by controlling the transparency of the glass from less than 1% to 20%.
The five high-definition, interactiveLED display screens are in front of Research Frontiers. A screen that stretches pillar to pillar has two screens under a single piece of glass that has the same resolution as an 8K screen. Seatback displays are 12.6 inches.
The car will be able to let passengers consume content in private if the screens distract the driver.
GM's largest-ever printed production part will be spotlighted by the spacious cabin of the Celestiq. The car uses a lot of 3D-printed parts. The seat belt loop guide is the first safety related 3D printed part.
The hand-built process is simplified by the architecture of the car's under body. The shock towers are made from six large cast aluminum components, with one shock alone replacing up to 40 components from the overall body part count. It helps reduce weight and maximize space for more important features.
Cadillac executives said that the Celestiq will come with a Level 4 self-drive system. Ultra Cruise is a hands-free driver assistance technology that will be used in the car. Over-the-air software updates will be provided by the Ultra Cruise hardware.
Some Cadillac dealers won't sell the Celestiq.
Cadillac will give all dealers the chance to sell the Celestiq. We don't believe that all dealers will want to take that chance because of the investment requirement.
Retaining a concierge is part of that investment. The Celestiq is only available on the waiting list.
