The Los Angeles Clippers sideline erupted in joy after two special plays by the team.

The Bolts recovered a muffed punt in overtime.

The Bolts improved to 4-2 with the win, keeping them in the thick of the race for the AFC West.

York missed a potential game-winning 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of last Sunday's game.

The Chargers were confident that they could win on their terms.

The Bolts' offense was struggling against a fast and physical defense. Herbert threw 38 of 57 passes for 238 yards.

Herbert averaged 2.2 air yards on his completions, below his previous career low of 2.6.

The game-winning field goal was set up by a clutch 9-yard reception by Mike Williams, who had two catches for 17 yards.

Herbert's lone touchdown drive came in the first quarter, when he put together a seven-play, 84-yard drive that ended with Austin Ekeler running 6 yards for a score to put the Bolts on the board.

Herbert had his second pick of the season in the fourth quarter on a first-and- 10 from his own 17-yard line.

Herbert said earlier this week that he thinks it's getting better because he's still playing. Time is the best help.

Cornerback J.C. Jackson signed a five-year contract in free agency.

Jackson was only able to watch as Greg Dulcich sprinted by for a 39-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter to give the Broncos a 10 point lead. Jackson was a fifth-year pro when he played for the New England Revolution.

It's not clear what has caused Jackson's slow start to the season, whether it's learning a new scheme or returning from ankle surgery.

After spending most of the 2020 season on the sideline with an ankle injury, Mack is proving that he has plenty left in the tank.

Mack acknowledged entering Monday night that it's not fun chasing around Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, yet he kept constant pressure on Wilson, sacked him once, and also made a play on the ball.

Mack is tied with six other players with six sacks in the National Football League. Wilson was sacked four times by the Bolts.

Herbert didn't throw a touchdown on Monday. Kyler Murray has thrown at least 57 passes without a touchdown twice this season.

The next game is against Seattle. It's Sunday.

Denver Broncos

When Nathaniel Hackett was hired as the Broncos' head coach, one of his top priorities was to improve the team's performance in the division.

In their past 13 division games dating back to the start of the 2020 season, the Broncos have gone 2-11 on the road with a loss in Las Vegas already on their slate. As their offense shut it down in the second half, Montrell Washington muffed a punt at the Broncos' 28-yard line, setting up a 19-16 overtime loss to the Los.

The Broncos had a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and then called it a night. The Broncos were shut out in the third quarter for the second time this season, as they had only 19 yards of offense.

All the work the Broncos said they did on offense during the 11 days between their Thursday night loss to the Colts and Monday's game against the Bolts didn't show.

The rookies got a glimpse of what the rest of the season would look like. On the game's first play from scrimmage, Mathis was called for pass interference and the Bolts went on to score a touchdown and a field goal.

There were three pass interference penalties in the first half that accounted for 81 yards. Herbert would send the ball to the other side whenever he faced a low stress situation. The Broncos' future opponents will believe they can make it work as long as the rookies are used to it.

The fourth-down pass breakup was a sign that it will not be a relaxing ride for him in the coming weeks, even though he showed some resilience with the play.

The biggest hole in the game plan is the run game and how important it is to the team.

The run game is ornamental when the team has the ball. The Broncos ran the ball just seven times in the first half against the Bolts, and one of them was a Wilson scramble.

This week, everything you need.
