Evan McMullin, the independent candidate for Senate in Utah, confronted incumbent Sen. Mike Lee over his involvement in the plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Lee helped push legal schemes to keep Donald Trump in power before changing his mind and voting to certify the 2020 election on January 6, 2021. Sidney Powell is a Republican lawyer who spread baseless claims of a rigged election.
McMullin said in the debate that it was the most egregious betrayal of the constitution.
McMullin said that when the barbarians were at the gate, he was happy to let them in.
McMullin: You said the president should listen to legal quack Sidney Powell, please make time for her, let her in you told the white house chief of staff… You were there to stand up for our constitution but when the barbarians were at the gate, you were happy to let them in pic.twitter.com/P1xAhiZj73

Lee said he was looking intorumors of alternate slates of electors in the weeks before Congress voted to certify the 2020 presidential election.
I don't think I would have supported a fake election plot. It's not accurate. Lee told McMullin to apologize.
The senator held up his document. He said how dare you.
McMullin said that Senator Lee had been doing this for several years. When it is convenient for you to abandon your pursuit of power, the constitution is not a prop.
Lee suggested in a text message that there could be a path to overturn the results of the 2020 election if a small number of states appointed alternate slates of delegates.
Lee changed his mind just days before the attack on the U.S. Capitol by hundreds of Trump supporters. He warned that the effort could backfire and urged him to convince Trump to change his mind.
There is no authority for us to reject a state's electoral votes if there is no dueling slates.
Lee is facing a tighter challenge from McMullin. A recent poll found McMullin within a point of the lead.
