Apple is partnering with Mercedes-Benz and Universal Music Group to bring its surround sound audio product to cars.
For the first time, Spatial Audio with Apple Music will be integrated into the car, starting with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class as well as its growing electric portfolio.
In the spring of 2021, Spatial Audio will debut. It was initially enabled by default on Apple hardware, which included the iPhone, iPad, Mac models, AirPods and Beats headphones with H1 or W1 chips. Apple Music had spatial audio on it.
Apple says Mercedes-Benz owners can get the "gold standard of sound" for a price. That is where it costs a lot.
$4,450 is the price for the Burmester 3D system. Six 3D speakers that emit their sound from above are included in the Burmester D sound system.
"Sound quality is incredibly important to Apple Music which is why we are so excited to be working with Mercedes to make Spatial Audio on Apple Music available in the car for the first time."
Universal Music Group will allow recording artists to base their song approval process on how the final mix sounds in a Mercedes-Benz in order to create a gold standard of sound.
The collaboration, which was announced Sunday at the Paris Motor Show, is yet another sign of Apple's ambitions in cars.
