The former president's company charged the Secret Service as much as $1,185 per night to stay at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, more than five times the government recommended rate for the city.

According to documents reviewed by the committee, the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service more than the government recommended rate for hotel stays.

The committee was considering legislation to prevent conflicts of interest for future presidents because of the high rates.

The Committee has not been given a complete picture of the Secret Service's expenses at Trump properties. The Trump Organization did not reply immediately.

The committee is investigating Trump's conflicts of interest. According to Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington, Trump visited his own properties more than 500 times while in office. The Secret Service spent nearly $2 million of taxpayer money at Trump properties, according to a report released in May. The Secret Service paid Trump's private club more than $300,000 to protect him and his family after federal agents searched Mar-A-Lago earlier this year.
