The first long haul Boeing route has been officially announced by the airline.
On December 1, 2022, the Boeing 787-9 will be flown between Newark and Cologne. The flight's schedule will be listed below.
The Newark to Frankfurt flight left at 3:20PM and arrived at 7:55AM.
The route is blocked for 9 and 7 hours. Prior to this switchover, the flight will be operated by the A330-300, which is a different type of plane than the 747-8. The schedule hasn't been updated to reflect the new plane, but it has been announced by the airline.
The airline had originally planned to make Toronto the first intercontinental destination for the Boeing 787-9. Toronto is likely to be the second long haul destination.
The first Boeing 787-9 was delivered by Lufthansa. This isn't one of the factory fresh 787s that the airline will start acquiring as of mid-2023, but rather a bunch of jets that were originally intended for Hainan Airlines.
Between now and the beginning of December, there will be flights between the two cities.
When Lufthansa takes delivery of the first five Boeing 787-9s, they won't feature the carrier's new "Allegris" business class product, which will launch in mid-2023
Some changes to the finishes were made to better reflect the brand of the airline. The business class product on this route will be upgraded to include reverse herringbone seats, which is a huge upgrade over the standard product.
A staggered product in business class is one of the interim products that the airline is currently offering.
The first long haul route will be Frankfurt to Newark on December 1, 2022, according to the airline. The first Boeing 787-9 will be entering service this week and will operate up to three flights a day for crew familiarity.
Business class on the 787-9 will include reverse herringbone seats. The Allegris business class is only going to debut next year.
