There is a serious user retention problem with the Metaverse project.
Internal Meta documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal show that most users fail to return to the company's flagship metaverse space after a single month of use.
The documents show that Facebook had a goal of 500,000 active users by the end of the year. The company lowered the number of active users it wanted to have to just 280,000.
According to the WSJ, active users of Horizon Worlds have yet to reach 200,000.
The platform's failure to steer users to places where they could interact with other digital humans is said to be a sad world.
The metaverse documents are even more depressing considering that other leaked documents recently revealed that Meta employees themselves have been forced to use the glitchy platform.
The company's economy is built on the work of creators who will be able to cash in by creating popular worlds that are teeming with visitors.
That couldn't be farther from the truth. Nine percent of the worlds were never used by 50 users according to the leaked documents.
According to the WSJ, there aren't any girls in the Hot Girl Summer Rooftop Pool Party or Murder Village. It was tragic.
It's proving difficult to get users to stick around.
It'll likely take a while for Meta to make good on many of its promises as shown off in the company's recent conference.
The amount of money spent on the metaverse will only increase in the coming years.
How long can Meta hold out without the updated users?
Company documents show that the flagship Metaverse is falling short.
