There is a new activities feature that includes casual games. More than a year ago, the popular video service forced two popular music bot offline. For more than a year, Discord members have been able to watch YouTube videos in sync with one another.
It isn't a straight replacement for the popular YouTube Discord bot, but it is definitely more interactive. Friends will have to join the activity to watch and listen to the videos created by the users of the game. It arrives a few weeks after it was noticed that more bot's were no longer supporting or relying on YouTube. Today, the activities feature is rolling out to Discord users.
The new Activities feature will be triggered by a rocket ship button in the voice channels. You will need Discord Nitro to launch poker, chess, sketch, and other games, even if you have access to the Putt Party golf game. Anyone can join the game once it's launched, but only one person needs Nitro to do that.
These casual games are a lot more accessible and fun than sharing a link to a website with friends. If you are in a server with a lot of friends, the Poker Night game is particularly addicting. The original promise of Stadia was to make it easy to share and enjoy games together, and it feels like Discord could be in a position to work with game streaming services and developers to make this a reality.
There is a new plan with the launch of activities. The regular $9.99 Nitro plan won't include the server boost, HD video streaming, animated avatars, and custom profiles found in the Nitro Basic plan.
After appearing in the UK over the past few months, Nitro Basic will be available around the world on October 20. It is a less expensive option if you need access to server emoji and file uploads, but it won't allow you to start most of the casual games since you'll need the full Discord Nitro for that.
It will be possible for admins to start browsing an app directory tomorrow. It should be simpler to get a server up and running with all the bots you need. Premium app subscriptions allow developers to sell features for their native Discord apps.
The world of apps is a big part of Discord, and we want our platform to be a place where developers can explore their creativity and earn money. We're experimenting with Premium App Subscriptions and enabling a small group of developers to sell premium features of their apps on datememe.
