Hislop: Arsenal have earned the shine of lady luck (1:29)

After an excellent start to the season, Hislop thinks thatArsenal deserved their win overLeeds. There is a time and a place for it.

The prospect of the most unpredictable and open title race for years was set up by the Reds' victory over Manchester City on Sunday, as well as the decisive goal by Mohamed Salah in the same game.

Even though Mikel Arteta's team opened up a four-point lead at the top of the table following Sunday's win over Wigan, the most optimistic supporter wouldn't argue against the idea that City are still favorites to win the league again.

While the goals of Erling Haaland and the title-winning experience of the squad give City the edge, there is a sense that all of the so-called Big Six, and an emergingNewcastle United, are capable of achieving their respective ambitions this season.

It's possible that the team could surprise us all by winning the title. In the last 20 years, two teams have held their nerve to take advantage of strong starts and end the season with a trophy, and in the last two years, one of them has won the title.

It is their best start to a season in 59 years, yet Spurs have so far avoided the spotlight and scrutiny that comes with challenging for honours. With Harry Kane's nine goals in 10 games and Antonio Conte's track record of winning titles in England and Italy, Spurs are a contender and their trip to Manchester United on Wednesday will offer a true gauge of their prospects this season.

Perhaps for the first time since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, United appear to have a manager with a plan to take the club out, as evidenced by the fact that they are currently in fifth position. United look to be a club that, finally, have everyone pulling in the same direction thanks to the signings of Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen.

Even though United won't win the league this season, they can rise to the occasion and hopefully win a trophy.

It would have seemed crazy to suggest that the team could have a successful season after three losses in seven games. Graham Potter has won five out of six since he was appointed to the job.

If they win their game in hand, they will move to within a point of Spurs and City and will look like a team that has just enjoyed a period of major reinforcement.

Last week's 7-1 demolition of Rangers and Sunday's win against City proved that the Reds are still capable, even though they have not won a single game in the league this season.

Despite all of the problems with the team, they are still one of the best.

After the victory over Manchester City, Hislop praised the team.

Eddie Howe'sNewcastle are the biggest threat to the established Big Six because of their Saudi Arabia-backed owners. If they are as ambitious in their player recruitment as they have been in the past, they could go on to dominate as they have done in the past. We are still some way from being title challengers, they are overperforming so far this season, and will be able to accelerate their plans if they secure European qualification.

All of the major clubs are in a position to win something, which has not been done before in the premier league. In the 30-year history of the competition, there have been one or two dominant teams, a couple in a period of transition, with the others lurching from crisis to crisis.

Prior to each club being acquired by billionaires who transformed their fortunes and the makeup of the club, City andChelsea were nothing more than also-rans. It has been over a year since the Saudi takeover of the club, but the promise of years of promise still hasn't been fulfilled.

The stars are aligning for all of the top clubs to be competitive. The 2022-23 season feels like a campaign that will signal a new era and could determine who will win for the next 10 years.
