While he remains committed to the project he's continuing to build at Jackson State, head coach Deion Sanders won't rule out a move to a power five school.

If a Power Five administrator contacted him about a vacant position, he would have to entertain it.

I'm going to have to amuse it. He told them to straight up. I would be foolish not to.

The recent drama surrounding a postgame handshake between Sanders and Alabama State head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. gave the Hall of Famer a chance to answer his critics.

Robinson told reporters that he did not believe in SWAC.

You're not going to come back the next day and apologize and we're not going to hear anything else. That's not true. You said that mess. I was disturbed by the comment that I am not SWAC. Which one is it? Today I have time. If I'm not SWAC, who is it? Who is SWAC if I'm not a member?

Early on, it was easy to be skeptical about the marriage. Robinson's pointed remark underscored how he didn't have a lot of ties to HBCU football.

Is this an attempt to transform HBCU football for the better, or is it just an opportunity for him to get his foot in the door as a coach before moving on?

The experiment has gone better than anyone anticipated.

Jackson State is off to a great start with a perfect record. The Tiger is an attractive landing spot for high school students. They got five 4-star recruits in 2021.

The answer to the question posed by Wertheim was a case in point. It will be tempting to take a big Power Five job down the road as much as the 55 year old is enjoying life at Jackson State.

Right now, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Arizona State and Colorado are all available.

Florida State is sputtering under Mike Norvell and is looking for a new leader in the next couple of years. One of the first names on the Florida State's list would most likely be Sanders.

The Power Five overtures are bound to come once the season ends in 2022.
