The 4K model of the Chromecast is getting a new version of the operating system. Last month, the cheaper HD model of the streaming dongle was released, and it shipped with the latest version of the operating system. The update can be downloaded from the profile icon at the top right of the interface.
The update doesn't add a lot of new features, but it does contain a couple of new settings that should improve the experience. According to FlatPanelsHD, the biggest feature is a new frame rate matching feature that should cut down on judder and allow the Chromecast to match the frame rate of content being played. New settings are available to control surround sound.
There is a new content matching frame rate feature.
The update allows users to cut off camera and microphone access. The new update gives you more control over when apps can see and hear you, if you want to use your Chromecast with a Duo call. The release notes state that there are bullet points for increased security and privacy.
There have been relatively few updates for the streaming dongle since it was released. Don't expect a complete change of scenery.
