Donald Trump's written response to the House panel's intention to subpoena him looks like an insanity defense according to Neal Katyal.
Three days after the House panel voted to subpoena Trump, a law professor and an acting solicitor general made an appearance on NBC. If the former president does not comply with the subpoena, they will be held in contempt of Congress and referred to the Department of Justice for prosecution.
In response to the decision, Trump sent a document to the panel that contained multiple baseless claims of election fraud. There were four pictures of the crowd near the Washington Monument.
It's very hard to follow a 14-page document. It seems to dig the hole in deeper for Donald Trump, according toKatyal.
The paper seems to suggest that he is trying to go for the insanity defense, so I can't see it helping him.
It was thought that Trump would just give in and testify because of the congressional subpoena.
This is a man who has taken the Fifth Amendment more than 400 times before. I don't think he's ready to testify.
During the New York Attorney General's probe of the Trump Organization's business practices, Trump pleaded the Fifth more than 450 times and only answered a question about what he was.
"I think Attorney General Garland will indict Trump, seeing as there is overwhelming evidence to do so and no apology on Trump's part," he said.
The representative at the post-presidential press office did not reply immediately.
