Despite moving the manufacture of some of its electric cars to China, BMW insists Oxford will remain at the heart of Mini production.

The Cowley plant made the first electric Mini. All Minis will be powered by electricity by the year 2030.

The minis will be built in China. The countryman will be built in Germany.

There will be no change to jobs in Oxford.

After agreeing a deal with Great Wall Motor, BMW said it was going to make electric cars in China and Oxford.

The Mini Cooper three-door and five-door Hatch models will be built at Cowley. The Mini convertible will be built at Plant Oxford in 25 years.

This is one of our most important cars and a global best-seller. A BMW spokesman said that Plant Oxford would remain at the center of Mini production.

Oxford is an important part of the BMW Group's production strategy with its high degree of flexibility, competitiveness and expertise. They said there was no impact on jobs.

Susan Brown, Oxford City Council's leader, said that she had sought reassurance from BMW and that there was an ongoing commitment to the city.
