A man was arrested after police said he left his granddaughter in the back of a rental car at the airport.

Andrew Grant, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said that the child was scared and hot, but in good health when checked by paramedics.

A 1-year-old girl was locked in the back seat of a car in the return lot of the Daytona Beach International Airport at around 6 pm on Monday.

The child was breathing normally but her face was warm and dry.

According to the statement, the child was left in the vehicle for over five hours.

The driver couldn't be contacted by the airport staff or the sheriff's office. The mother of the 1-year-old girl called the sheriff's office after she found out her father had left her in the rental car and not at his home.

According to the statement, detectives discovered that David Towner was babysitting his granddaughter when he left her in the rental car.

Towner was arrested and charged with child neglect.

A citizen's award will be given to the employee who found the child at the rental car company.

The company is grateful for the actions of their teammates and happy the child is okay, according to a representative.

The child was safely returned to her mother at the airport. The employees of the rental car company brought the child to safety and comforted the child. The Daytona Beach International Airport manager said in a statement to Good Morning America that they were proud of their security team and sheriff's office for their quick response.
