Allen said that the Saints' extensive injury report made it difficult to find 48 available bodies for the game against the Cincinnati.
The Saints were down four players.
Allen didn't want to make any projections with a Thursday night game at the Arizona Cardinals coming up.
We'll see where he is and then we'll go from there, Allen said.
He wouldn't say if he would leave the decision up to Allen.
The whole situation will be handled by the district attorney. "We're going to see how it goes."
The quarterback was 17-of-32 for 172 yards and a touchdown. The Saints ran for over 200 yards but still lost.
They had not lost a team game with at least 200 rushing yards since 2005.
With injuries dominating their roster, the Saints had no choice but to try and attack the Cincinnati.
They put kick returner Deonte Harty on injured reserve because they didn't have many wide receivers.
Shaheed scored a 44-yard touchdown in his first game for the Saints.
The Saints couldn't get in the end zone again after that, as they only gained 28 yards in their last two drives, including a two-minute drive to try to get back in the game. Two missed tackles led to a 60-yard touchdown for Ja'Marr Chase, who was a member of the Cincinnati team.
The difference in the game was the field goals and not the touchdown.
It's frustrating, he said. We need to be proud of being at our best in those moments.
A similar cast of characters could be used by the Saints against the Cards.
They have missed the last three and two games. The only receiver to practice this week was the leader in yards, but he is still in concussion protocol.
