When using the audio output switcher on the phone, you might soon be able to pick from cast devices. The output switcher only allows you to swap between media sessions on a pair ofBluetooth devices.

Local-to-remote, remote-to-local, and remote-to-remote transfers could be possible with the help of the output switcher in the new version of the software development kit. Rahman pointed out that the terms "local" and "remote" refer to transfers involving pairs of devices.

You should be able to use the audio output switcher from your lock screen to transfer media sessions from your phone to a smart display. In a demo posted by Rahman, you can see how this might look, as well as an upcoming feature that will allow you to enable audio on multiple cast devices at the same time. It doesn't seem like it's ready just yet because Rahman experienced some bugs when trying out the function.

For whatever reason, the support for cast devices in the output switcher was never finalized, despite the fact that it was being worked on back in 2020. It looks like we could see it come to fruition in a future update as a result of the detail in the developer documents.
