Mercedes-Benz will be adding support for Apple's Music to some of its vehicles. The first time spatial audio will be available in a car, it will be on Apple Music.
The integration isn't cheap. The top-of-the-line Maybach, S-Class, as well as electric EQS and EQE models that come with the Burmester 3D or 4D sound system, have been added to the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The vehicles themselves cost upwards of $100,000, but this doesn't include the Burmester sound system that some vehicles have as an add-on.
Apple Music's spatial audio is supposed to enhance music and make it more immersive by creating a virtual 3D audio space from your speakers, earbuds, or headphones. Chris says that the quality of the mix isn't always consistent across songs, even though Apple Music labels the songs that support the format.
Adding spatial audio to Apple Music will make it easier for Benz drivers to find songs that are compatible with the format. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music, Mercedes-Benz is partnering with Universal Music Group to make certain songs "Approved in a Mercedes-Benz." Artists will only be granted a seal if the final mix sounds good in a Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz is giving UMG some cars.
"Sound quality is incredibly important to Apple Music which is why we are so excited to be working with Mercedes to make Spatial Audio on Apple Music available in the car for the first time." We now have more opportunities to bring music to our subscribers all over the world.
