The baseball player who loves SpongeBob SquarePants has endorsed the New York Yankees to win the World Series.
Oscar Gonzalez hit a two-run single with two outs in the ninth to give the Cleveland Guardians a 6-5 victory over the New York Yankees and a 2-1 lead in the American League Division Series.
The young Guardians, who have shown no fear during this storybook season, rallied once again and pushed the Yankees to the brink of elimination, thanks to a two-run single by Gonzalez in the bottom of the sixth.
"We've seen it in two series so far from this guy," the starter said. He had a game-winning hit in another game and hit a home run in the 15th.
There's a maturity level at the plate you don't see often.
The New York Yankees got a two-run home run from Judge and had a five-run lead going into the ninth, but they couldn't hold onto it and lost.
Gonzalez flung his helmet in the air as his teammates mobbed him. The outfielder hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 15th to win the wild-card game for the Yankees.
The Yankees will try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they face Cole in Game 4.
The manager said he loved that the pitcher was on the mound "Alright, let's get it." We have to get over it after a gut-wrenching ending tonight. I still love our chances even though we are up against it.
The Yankees entered the ninth with a large lead and went on to win the title.
The win followed a familiar formula for the Guardians, who led the majors with 29 wins in their final at-bat and have now done it twice in a week.
The theme for Gonzalez's plate appearance was "SpongeBob SquarePants."
Gonzalez said through a translator that he went to sing the song because of his large body. I feel like a child.
Gonzalez rode a scooter down the hallway after the game.
Gonzalez is the only player to get three or more hits in the ninth and later in a single playoff game.
Gonzalez said it was amazing. I don't know about the stat, but it's from another countryman, so it's more special.
With one out in the ninth, Straw blooped a single off the pitcher and scampered to second when the ball got by the fielder, who missed it. There was a base hit in left by Kwan and a base hit in right by Boone.
The tying run was prevented from scoring when Isiah Kiner-Falefa stopped with a slide on an infield single by Jose Ramrez.
Josh Naylor was struck out on three pitches before Gonzalez had a moment.
Gonzalez broke his belt sliding into second base and had to use Sandy Alomar's belt before the game resumed. It's become a good luck charm for Gonzalez, who was following Alomar when the Indians eliminated the Yankees in 1997.
Sandy will never see it again according to Gonzalez.
The Yankees are in bad shape. The Yankees will be facing a team with a lot of confidence when they try to force a fifth game in the series on Monday.
Judge said that they lost a hard one. We have to go back and do our thing the next two games. As simple as that, it is. We've been dealing with adversity for a long time.
The Yankees hit four homers, including a two-run shot by Judge and a two-run shot by Cabrera.
Judge was the first to hit in the series with a third-inning home run. The Yankees needed a spark and got a huge boost from the most feared hitter in the game.
The Yankees were unable to protect the lead. The loss of Aroldis Chapman, who was left off the playoff roster when he missed a workout, was a blow to the team.
The Yankees hit a pair of homers, a two-run home run by Cabrera and a solo home run by Bader.
There was a red-dressed sellout crowd that helped propel the Guardians to an early lead, but they wasted scoring chances against the starter.
The same game as the opener will be played in the fourth game.
Houston will take on Seattle in the ALCS if this series goes the distance.
The home run king was dropped from the leadoff spot into the second hole and several other changes were made to the lineup.
In the first nine at-bats of the series, Judge struck out eight times.
On his second trip, he didn't miss.
The blast that Judge hit over the 19-foot high wall in the deepest part of Progressive Field was threatening to leave the stadium onto Eagle Avenue.

Some of it is probably random, but I like pitching here. The routine of working here is enjoyable. Things have been good.
Homer happy.
The Yankees have hit a home run in their 20th consecutive playoff game. The streak began in the ALDS. The Dodgers and Astros are the next two longest streaks.
Up next.
The team gave up three earned runs and two homers in the opener.
