Apple's newest phone, the iPhone 14, retails at $799, but one of its very first models is going for much more.

The auction house that is selling the first-gen iPhone says it could fetch $30,000 or more.

The original box has not been opened yet. If it is sold for $30,000 it will be auctioned for 50 times its original price.

There was a 3.5-inch screen, a 2-megapixel camera, and a web browser in the first iPhones. Steve Jobs called it a combination of an iPod, a phone, and an internet communicator when it was first introduced.

The item description says that the factory sealed, first-release example is in excellent condition. It would be hard to find a better example. Relevance and rarity make up a winning formula.

The phone has been offered for $2,500 so far. As of this writing, the highest bid is $10,446. Sunday is the end of the auction.
