Since its launch in 2007, Hulu has become one of the top streaming services. The current lineup of movies is impressive, including the 2020 Academy Award Best Picture winner, but let's not forget that the service also has Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning original television shows and a massive library of content from networks.

Now that the service's interface has been updated to make it easier to use, here are some of the best original and non- original shows on the service.

Is The Great following the true story of Catherine the Great's coup against her husband? It is not possible to say yes. Is it a hilarious, wacky interpretation of Catherine's story, complete with the invention of bowling, slapfights and an imperial ton of vodka? Absolutely.

It's well worth a watch for fans of writer Tony McNamara's Oscar-winning The Favourite because The Great is a fantastic comedy series draped with all the trappings of a big budget period story.

2. Love, Victor

Michael Cimino plays a new student at Simon's high school in this spinoff of Love, Simon. He's a star athlete, a model son, a great friend, and he's starting to think he's gay.

Love, Victor is pitch perfect high school drama with all the sweeping musical cues and whispered secrets that entails, and its connection to the original movie is incredibly sweet, as the franchise's OG romantic hero occasionally offers him advice on social media.

You can watch Love, Victor on the streaming service.

3. What We Do in the Shadows

For vampires, their victims, and their fans...

The first season of What We Do in the Shadows proved that the show had what it took to live up to its predecessor, and the second season expanded its universe and deepened its characters. For ten glorious weeks this spring, it was our pleasure to be invited into the day-to-day lives of these hopelessly clueless vampire as they tangled with ghosts and troll, navigate chain emails and run off to small-town. The last one was Laszlo.

The true secret weapon of the series has turned out to be a familiar face who is still very human and still very much alive. After discovering that he is a vampire hunter by heritage, he realized that he doesn't have to take this stuff anymore. It's hard to blame him, he hangs with a lot of people.

You can watch What We Do in the Shadows on the streaming service.

4. Pen15

For folks who weren't cool in any school...

Pen15 is difficult to watch. The awkwardness of middle school is nails by having series creators Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle play fictionalized versions of themselves in 7th grade, surrounded by a cast of actors who are younger than them.

The comedy of making-up adults act like preteens heightens the comedy of its funnier moments, but also serves as a reminder that the drama of mid-puberty is important because it's experienced by children. Pen 15 is cringey, sweet, hilarious, and wholly original comedy.

There's a new tab where you can watch Pen 15.

5. Ramy

The opening is in a new tab.

For connoisseurs of dramedy...

His TV debut is captivating, contemplative, and often uncomfortable.

The story of an Egyptian-American family is told in the series. For so much of it, Ramy focuses his energy on how to be a good Muslim, but it takes along time and mistakes with drugs and women for him to realize that he should learn to be a good person as well.

There is a self-assured DNA throughout the two seasons of the show, a voice that we hope to hear from much more.

You can watch Ramy on the streaming service.

6. Friday Night Lights

It's a misconception that you have to be interested in a sport to watch a show about it. Especially in the case of Friday Night Lights. FNL is the story of a high school football team in Texas, but it's also the story of a community, of all the individual successes and systemic failures that add up to the crazy little thing. Come to cry at Coach Taylor's epic pre-game speeches, root for the weaponized himbo, or just marvel at the perfection that is Mrs. Coach's hair, all of which are valid to the emotional glory that is Friday Night Lights.

You can watch Friday Night Lights on the streaming service.

Sally Rooney's novel of the same name was the basis for Normal People. The title of the story of school sweethearts Marianne and Connell is "normal". Whether it's a few months, two years, or close to the decade that these two characters experience, most viewers will remember some sort of sustained romantic turmoil in their own lives. The show shows us how much we love each other and how much it means to us.

Something strange is going on with the company's CEO and founder, Forest, and after Sergei disappears one day into his new job, lily finds herself on an increasingly perilous journey to uncover some answers

What does Atlanta look like? Modern serial sitcoms don't follow a single narrative thread from one episode to the next. The series begins with Earn, who has no home or job, helping Alfred, his cousin, manage his rap career. The basic description doesn't capture what Atlanta is really about. The show presents a slice of life from the streets of the Georgia city, focusing on Earn and his friends, and often tackling social issues in intelligent and nuanced ways.

Fans of Rick and Morty know that the show is much more than they think. Its mile-a-minute jokes and irreverent...everything makes it one of the funniest animated shows on TV, all the while talking about issues of loneliness, family, the validity of space, and what happens when one asshole genius decides he's above the social.

Each episode of Monsterland takes place in a different area of the US. Its horrors are both real and imagined, with meat-eating mermaids and jazz vampire creeping around as an extrapolation of the darkness hiding within humans.

In Monsterland's anthologized episodes, the audience is challenged to ask which characters are monsters and which are humans.

The Equal Rights Amendment and the campaign to stop it were dramatized in this series.

The idea that political, civil, and legal rights should be equal for men and women in the US clashed with the conservative values of Schlafly, who played the character. Gloria Steinem supports the law. Mrs. America tells a heightened version of the incredible history of the Equal Rights Amendment and the swaths of American women who fought for and opposed equal rights on the basis of sex and gender.

Mrs. America can be watched on the streaming service Hulu.

In Woke, a black artist's perspective on life is turned upside down after a run-in with the police forces him to reckon with the realities of racism. The growing wokeness of his character is illustrated by his newfound ability to see objects as animated voices that berate him for ignoring the social influences that have affected his life.

Is the depiction of what it's like to work for a magazine realistic? It is not possible to say yes. If it's a fun adventure rife with unpredictable plots, romance, and enough fantastic outfits to drive any reasonable person to attempt a complete closet change, then it's worth a try. Yes, absolutely. The bold type paints New York's aspiring writers in bright colors and offers a glossy alternate universe where writing for the dot com is one small step away from a corner office.

It is almost too perfect that the film takes place in Los Angeles.

Jimmy and Gretchen meet at a wedding and hit it off because they are not known to their friends for being outgoing or likable. Their relationship was followed from hot sex to mortified attachment and then some. Stephen Falk and his writers create a twisted, rowdy take on comedies about adult friendship, with Kether Donohue and Desmin Borges brilliantly rounding out the cast.

Go for the cringe, stay for Sunday Funday, and just skip Season 4.

You're the Worst can be watched on the streaming service.

It's a tremendous honor for me to convince people to watch Bob's Burgers instead of Bob's Burgers.

The series about a family of cannibals was originally conceived as an adult series. From a persnickety health inspector to an unexpected case of meat fraud, Bob, Linda, Tina, Gene, and Louise have faced a lot of restaurant related quandaries. Bob's Burgers has a knack for capturing what it means to be a family in the modern age.

The series has become the go-to comfort watch for many. You can see why if you turn on one episode at a time. The characters are likable and the world feels lived in.

Bob's Burgers can be watched on the internet.

The Golden Girls is a classic show that has more reasons than most. It's jokes hold up 36 years later, its theme song is still popular, and its legendary on-screen chemistry is the standard for all sitcoms.

The Golden Girls took seven excellent seasons to prove that older characters, especially women, could be funny, emotionally developing, and romantically involved stars of their own show, and it's easy to see its impact on TV today.

You can watch The Golden Girls on the streaming service.
