The history of the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry (1:05)

The Alabama vs Tennessee game is important. Affirmative.

It's the third Saturday in October and time for the renewal of the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry.

The last time the two SEC East rivals met, they were both ranked in the top 10. Nick Saban has never lost to the Volunteers in his time as Alabama's coach. The closest the Vols have been was a two point loss in 2009, while the Tide have scored 41 or more points in eight of the past 15 meetings.

Young, who injured his shoulder two weeks ago against Arkansas, started the game. Young will attempt to beat Hooker, who has accounted for 13 total scores and has yet to throw an intercept. Tennessee's offense is ranked first and second in the nation in points and yards.

Alabama's defense has given up the sixth-fewest points and yards in the country.

First half takeaways

Tennessee built a 28-20 lead against Alabama at home. The Vols started quickly and kept the pressure on the Tide.

Jalin Hyatt was unguardable, reeling in two first-half touchdown from Hendon Hooker, who was picture- perfect to start the game. Hooker had two touchdown passes and no turnovers. He scored 28 or more points in the first half against Alabama, becoming the third quarterback to do so in the last two years.

The Tide will go into the locker room with the same mistakes they've made all season. It felt like a replay of last month's scare against Texas.

The quarterback was hurried on six dropbacks after missing last week's game. Hooker was not rushed once.

Alabama had nine penalties. Tennessee had a couple.

A comeback from the Tide won't happen until they stop shooting themselves in the foot and find a receiver who can make a play on his own. The load is being shouldered by two running backs, but they cannot do it on their own. Field goals aren't going to be enough.

Alabama scores before the half

A 49-yard field goal by Reichard gave the Tide a point with 36 seconds left in the first half. They trail Tennessee in the first half.

Bryce throws a dime

Young led a 10-play, 84- yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass. While rolling to his left, it was an exceptional pass that hit the guy in the end zone.

Vols keep scoring

Tennessee's lead was increased to 18 after Alabama fumbled a punt and the Vols ran it in from 3 yards out. At the 11:41 mark of the second quarter, Alabama gave up 28 points, its highest point total of the season.
