The Rugby League World Cup will be hosted by England in the year 2021.

In their toughest group game, England ran in 10 tries and dominated the contest to make up for their opening loss.

Jack Welsby ran through to convert their opener. Dominic Young dived into the corner for his second after a brilliant run.

Izack Tago pulled a try back for Samoa by intercepting a loose pass on the halfway line and running clear, but they ended the first half with a 18-12 deficit.

Kallum Watkins was one of the players who helped England run riot in the second half.

Next Saturday, England will face France, followed by a game against Greece on October 29th.

Clinical England start with statement win

The opening ceremony got off to a bad start because the PA system malfunctioned and no music was played for the dancers.

The Kaiser Chiefs, the headline act before kick-off, were cut short and only performed one of their hits.

The tournament was delayed a year because of the coronaviruses, and the opening game was delayed several minutes.

England almost got off to a perfect start when Farnworth tried to touch down from Williams' grubber kick, but he spilled the ball. The penalty was given for obstruction.

Sam Tomkins was held up underneath the posts while Tom Burgess was not able to hold on to the ball when trying to ground it, as England took control of the game.

The pressure finally told as Williams and Welsby linked up, with the Saints player running through for a first score from a short pass.

Young showed his strength and power by cutting in from the right and evading a number of Samoan challenges before sliding in between the sticks and diving into the corner for his second try.

Farnworth and Whitehead both scored two tries in the last 16 minutes as Samoa crumbled after Anthony Milford was sin-binned.

As Makinson slid over in the left corner, there was more to come as the match ended with 24 points and 10 conversions.

The Samoans had been tipped as one of the favorites to win the World Cup for the first time.

Although they were given a gift when Penrith centre Tago intercepts Welsby's pass to pull a score back before the break, a combination of injuries and a total capitulation kept their unwanted record of never beating England intact.

'I never expected that sort of scoreline'

"We can do better and improve on the win," said Wane. I'm very pleased with the result.

Our defence put them off. We had a spell in the first half where we were off, but other than that we were great.

We did it in a good way, but we will face tougher tests.

England had a lot of energy and we couldn't get back in the game. We knew we were a bit underdone but didn't think we'd get a result like that.

England has Tomkins, Watkins, Farnworth, Young, Welsby and Williams.

Lees, Cooper, Hill, and McMeeken were added to the roster.

Suaalii, Tabuai-Fidow, Tago, Crichton, To'o, Luai, Milford, Papalii, Levi, J. Paolo, Su'a, Aloiai, Tuilagi.

Replacements: Taupau, Harris- Tavita, and T. May.

There's a sin-bin in Milford.
