The highly anticipated Georgia Senate debate between Republican Herschel Walker and incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock almost went off the rails Friday night when Walker was scolded for displaying a "prop" police badge he claimed was proof of work in law enforcement.
The senator said "I have never pretended to be a police officer" after Walker accused him of not supporting law enforcement.
"This is real," Walker said after the debate moderated reprimanded him for violating the rules of the debate.
There is no record of Walker being a police officer with any real power.
During a speech in which he mentioned he was an FBI agent, and in a speech where he claimed to have "FBI clearance", the Republican has a long history of saying otherwise.
Walker has said he received training at the FBI Academy in Virginia, but there is no evidence that he ever worked for the organization.
Walker's campaign did not reply to the request.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was told by a campaign spokeswoman that Walker is an "honorary deputy" in several Georgia counties, but the police department in Cobb County told the newspaper there was no record of that.
In 2001, Irving, Texas, officers said Walker threatened to shoot them as they responded to a domestic violence complaint.
Walker's campaign has been plagued by scandal in recent weeks, after news broke that the anti-abortion allegedly Republican paid for his then-girlfriend to terminated her pregnancies. Walker doesn't want to hear the story. The Georgia race is one of the closest Senate contests in the country and could decide control of the Senate, with the razor-thin margin expected to determine which party wins power. The survey's margin of error was three points, and it showed a two-percentage-point lead over Walker.
Walker gave an enthusiastic "yes" when asked if he would support another Trump candidacy, calling the ex-president a friend.
