The Washington Commanders quarterback will see a specialist in Los Angeles on Monday after breaking a finger on his throwing hand.
The specialist will figure out how long he will have to miss. The Packers will be in Washington on October 23.
It is expected that Taylor Heinicke would replace him. The Commanders have a fifth-round pick who has not played yet.
When he followed through on his follow-through, his hand hit the arm of a Chicago Bears defensive lineman. After the play, he shook his hand and then on the drive. The game was won by Washington 12-7.
The first report on the injury was from the National Football League Network.
It has been a rough start to his career. He has been sacked 23 times, tying him for the most in the NFL. Some of the pressure has been compounded by the fact that Wentz has held the ball too long.
In six games, the quarterback has thrown for 1,489 yards with 10 touchdown passes, which is fifth in the league. The Total QBR is ranked 25th.
Washington viewed him as a high-end backup. It gave up three picks and a choice in the second round. If Wentz plays 70% of Washington's offensive snaps, the Commanders will give him a second-round pick.
Heinicke's legs could give an offense a spark if he plays. The Commanders scored 55 points in the first two games, but only 47 the rest of the way.
The injury to his knee and the back injury he suffered a year later have hampered the once-mobile quarterback.
Heinicke won over teammates and fans with his ability to escape pressure and make plays, but limited arm strength hampered his game. Trainers helped him increase his arm strength.
