In a debate with an incumbent senator on Friday, Herschel Walker pulled out a police officer's uniform to push back against reports that he'd lied about being a cop.
While discussing their reputations working with law enforcement, Walker's past false claims of serving as a police officer prompted him to flash the badge.
"I have never pretended to be a police officer, even though Walker claimed to have been trained by the FBI," said the man. I have never said I was going to shoot the police.
"I work with many police officers," Walker said in response while holding up the badge, prompting the debate host to criticize him for violating the debate rules.
The AP reported in February that Walker had threatened to shoot officers during a 2001 domestic dispute, one of many scandals which have plagued the Georgia candidate's run for Senate. Walker lied about how many children he has fathered and paid for his ex to get an abortion despite his pro-life stance.
I used to work for law enforcement, y'all didn't know that? Walker spoke to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. I went to the FBI training school. I didn't know I was an agent.
A former district attorney told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Walker has no law enforcement authority and is like a junior ranger.
In an interview with NewsNation, the Trump-endorsed Senate candidate walked back his claims that he was a certified peace officer.
Walker told NewsNation that he worked with law enforcement. I have worked with all the law enforcement in the county.
It is not clear if Walker's title is an official one or an unofficial one.
