The director of the Washington state school board and his stepson were arrested this week on multiple felony and misdemeanor Capitol riot charges.

The two men were arrested and charged for their involvement in the January 6, 2021 insurrection. They were released after their initial court appearance in Washington.

Two men were charged.

They are accused of being part of a group of rioters who fought law enforcement officers near the entrance to the Lower West Terrace tunnel. Slaughter grabbed a police shield from a rioter and kept it away from an officer.

Slaughter told the officers to stand down, and if they walked away, nobody would be hurt. Slaughter used a pole to assault the officers who were manning the front line of the tunnel and gave the spray to the mob.

Prosecutors said that Gottfried used his body weight to push against the officers. Gottfried was taken into the tunnel where he was held for a period of time before being released.

According to prosecutors, the men were cited for not complying with the airline's mask policy after an inflight incident on their Alaska Airlines flight home.

Slaughter denied seeing any crimes committed when he told the FBI that he was at the Capitol on January 6. He told investigators that conservative people have jobs.

Slaughter was sworn in as a school board director. A person for the Washington school district told King 5 News that he is still on the board.

Slaughter and Gottfried didn't have attorney information.

More than 900 people have been arrested for their involvement in the attack.
