Changes to its frequent flyer program were made in November. The changes were supposed to kick in as of 2021, but were put on hold due to the swine flu. Changes to the Miles & More program will be communicated to members as of December 2022. I think the plan is still the same, even though there is not a public update about it. The devaluing of its award chart is one of the reasons for all of this. The letter that Lufthansa sent toMiles & More members in November is below. As our guest you are at the heart of our thoughts and actions. We want to make traveling as personal, simple and pleasant as possible for you, so every one of your journeys becomes a positive experience. That is our aspiration for our new, modern premium concept. Our status programme only met this requirement to a limited extent in recent years. Your wishes for simplification also reached us more and more frequently. We have therefore set out to revise our frequent flyer programme for you. In future, you will not have to spend a lot of time figuring out rules or asking yourself how to achieve your status. You will be able to concentrate solely on what is important to you and enjoy your journey. Today, we would like to take this opportunity to share the initial details about our frequent flyer programme with you. Here are the most important new features you can expect: * How to achieve status will become more transparent – a comprehensible points system will replace the status miles.* Your trust in us will pay off – status will primarily be achieved through flights with our airlines.* Loyalty will be rewarded – there will be lifetime Frequent Traveller and Senator status for loyalty over many years.* The period of validity will be changed – your status will be active for at least one year in future. * The structure will become clearer – we will say goodbye to complicated elements such as Status Stars.Lufthansa’s letter to Miles & More members
We can't wait to travel with you again.
You will not have to spend a lot of time figuring out rules or asking yourself how to achieve status, but rather you will be able to concentrate on what is important to you.
The above doesn't tell us much about what's happening All of the details of the program have been published. The head of marketing promised two things about the program.
Some promises are made.
You won't earn status based on the distance flown, but on the number of points you accumulate. This only affects earning status and doesn't affect how you earn award miles.
Depending on whether you are flying a continental or intercontinental flight, the points you earn will vary.
The most discounted fare in a cabin will earn the same amount of points as the most expensive one. Potential mileage run opportunities are presented by this.
You would expect the definition of continental and intercontinental to be easy to understand.
Both points and qualified points will be given to Miles & More.
If you fly one of the following airlines, you will earn points that you can redeem for flights.
Travel on other airlines will get you points. You have to earn a minimum number of points to get status.
The program is very easy to use.
The program has a new one.
Historically, you couldn't earn HON Circle status if you traveled in the economy on Lufthansa. Economy travel will qualify as that will no longer be the case.
With the new program, the status will only be valid for one year, which is a change from the past. That is a pretty large devaluation.
Lifetime status is going to be introduced for the first time by the airline.
Most Star Alliance airlines wouldn't be eligible for lifetime status if you traveled on them. Lifetime status can be earned if you've been loyal to Miles & More for a long time.
The changes to the program were made in November. They have been delayed indefinitely due to the Pandemic. It is anticipated that the changes will be communicated to members as of December 2022.
Some people may be surprised to hear that the new program is positive. There are pros and cons to every program.
The bad news is that status is only valid for a year, while the good news is that lifetime status is coming. The changes aren't bad. Everyone has their own travel habits and preferences.
The new program is good for those looking to get good value, rather than just those flying full fare tickets.
What do you think about the changes to the miles?
