During the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Musk announced that his company would be sending thousands of Starlink satellite internet terminals to the country.
Over 20,000 terminals have already been donated to Ukraine.
The Pentagon is being asked to foot the bill by Musk, who seems to have had a change of mind. He says it's become too expensive because of Musk's sympathy for Russia.
"SpaceX is not asking to recover past expenses, but also cannot fund the existing system indefinitely, and send several thousand more terminals that have data usage up to 100X greater than typical households." This is not reasonable.
Following reports of Starlink outages, the news came. According to the officials, the loss of communication was catastrophic.
Vice prime minister Mykhailo Federov said in March that the terminals allowed troops and civilians alike to stay connected and saved lives.
Musk changed his mind. Earlier this month, the billionaire suggested that Ukraine should give up parts of its territories to reach a peace agreement with Russia, which horrified his own fans.
The richest man in the world was told to "f--- off" by a Ukrainian diplomat.
The Russian president's press secretary said that it was positive that Musk was not a professional diplomat and that he was trying to resolve the situation peacefully.
Musk said that he was ending the free service because Ukrainian officials were mean to him.
The political strategist pointed out that Musk changed his mind just days after Melnyk told him to "f**k off." Musk responded with a shrug and said that they were following his recommendation.
CNN points out that a letter was sent to the Pentagon by the company before Melnyk made his comments.
This kind of mudslinging isn't going to help anyone, as the terminals are proving to be a huge help for the people of Ukraine.
There is more on the situation.
