A young man who was not old enough to drive was able to steal almost $24 million from a major investor. Now, over four years later and thousands likely invested in both an investigation and lawyers fees, Michael Terpin can now claim he has reclaimed all his money.

The original complaint was filed in New York Southern District Court in 2020 and named the then-18-year-old Ellis Pinsky of leading a 20-person group that met on the OGUsers' forum. Pinsky lived with his mother in upstate New York when he did this hack. There was only one hacker named in the original complaint and that was 20-year-old Nick Truglia.

Terpin was the co- founder of BitAngels and the co-owner of Match.com when he was younger. Terpin's phone hack was one of the biggest of its kind. $24 million would be a lot of money to some of the funds that are being attacked.

The idea of a group of young hackers finding out the phone and carrier information of people with largecryptocurrencies holdings sounds like something out of a spy movie. They used forged identity information to get the carrier to switch over control of the mark's phone sim card to them. They can now access the phone and find the target's wallet password.

Pinsky has been called " Baby Al Capone" by some tabloids. In a Rolling Stone interview from July, Pinsky said that men broke into his home in 2020 in order to steal the funds that he claimed he didn't have anymore. Many of the underpaid employees for carriers were willing to take bribes to perform swaps. This is what Pinsky said he did.

Pinsky's attorney did not respond to the request for comment.

A request for comment on behalf of Terpin was not immediately responded to by his attorney. A judge in California threw out a $200 million claim against AT&T. Terpin said the company was responsible for the hack because he was told two-factor authentication would keep his information safe. The privacy policy of the mobile carrier doesn't guarantee full protection.

October has proved to be an especially raw time to be involved in any kind of Defi project, as there are newcryptocurrencies happening every other day.
