The Atlanta Braves will give the ball to veteran Charlie Morton in Game 4 of the divisional series against the PhiladelphiaPhillies on Friday afternoon, the team announced Friday morning.
After several workouts over the past week, the Braves decided that he was ready to pitch.
After not throwing in a game for almost a month, the team waited to make the announcement as it contemplated how he would be most effective in the series. He could have been thrown out of the starting lineup.
Brian Snitker said the Braves would use him. How we're going to use this kid for our best advantage is the most important discussion.
When he was a starter, he had a 2.67 earned run average. He recently signed a long-term contract with the Braves that will keep him with the team for the foreseeable future.
"I feel good, and hopefully it keeps going that way," he said.
Nola is a right-handed pitcher.
Morton will start for Atlanta in the fourth game. He has performed well in the playoffs in the past, despite not having his best season.
Morton had a 5.40 in September but has a career mark of 2.70 in the playoffs. In 31 starts this year, he was 9-6 with a 4.34ERA. Philadelphia doesn't have a starter for the fourth game.
The series is tied at one win apiece.
