Scorecard

The third Twenty20 match between England and Australia was abandoned due to rain.

The game was reduced to 12 overs per side after two rain delays, but a third delay three overs into Australia's reply resulted in the game being abandoned.

Chris Woakes took all three of Australia's victims, including two in the first two balls of the game, as Australia was 30-3 at that point.

England had earlier reached 112-2, with Buttler hitting 65 from just 41 balls.

They will play Pakistan on Monday before their World Cup opener against Afghanistan.

Buttler hopes that the team can go all the way in the World Cup. We have something going. We are looking forward to it and it will be enjoyable.

Frustrating end to promising series for England

A La Nia weather pattern has caused a lot of bad weather on Australia's east coast over the last 24 hours.

Hopes of a full match were raised when the skies cleared in time for the start of the game.

After being put in to bat, England were never able to get going because of the rain.

They lost Alex Hales in the second over when he nicked a Josh Hazlewood delivery to first slip, but Buttler and Dawid Malan guided England to 49-1 before the rain arrived.

When they came back, Malan top-edged a Pat Cummins delivery into the sky and Mitchell Marsh took a smart catch.

After a further delay, the match was reduced to 12 overs and Buttler and Ben Stokes faced just 14 balls.

Chasing an imposing revised target, Australia's task was made harder when Finch and Marsh fell in the first over.

The minimum amount of overs needed for a result was seven, but further rain ended the game just seven balls short.

Reasons to be positive

There are many reasons for England to be positive despite the wet end to the series, including the return of Buttler.

After sitting out the entire Pakistan series with a calf problem, the England captain showed no ill-effects from his lay-off, hitting 150 runs in his three-innings game.

He formed a promising partnership with Alex Hales, who hit a match-winning 84 in the first T20 on his comeback after three years away from international cricket.

Chris Jordan and Mark Wood are fit again, which is great news for England's bowling options.

Liam Livingstone is England's main fitnessdoubt. He hasn't played since August but is hoping to return in Monday's game.

Ben Stokes' form with the bat was a concern after two single digit scores, but his 17 not out suggested he is finding his form at just the right time.

"Ben is a great player in all formats of the game," said Buttler. He hasn't played a lot of the game recently. He can play a role in the game. He's the person you want in your team.
