The sound of banging, growing louder and louder as he talks is making it more difficult for him to concentrate as he answers a question about his quick adaptation to life at Spurs.
Outside the first-floor canteen, a grinning Heung-Min Son is thumping his palms against a glass window, his laughter reciprocated by Bentancur as he succeeds in distracting his team-mate mid-interview.
Bentancur told Sky Sports of Son that he was a great person. It's an honor to be his team-mate. Every day we are happy.
Bentancur and Son communicate in a mixture of languages, but their friendship shows exactly what he's talking about.

Bentancur has only been a Spurs player for nine months but he is already a popular figure among team-mates and fans and it is clear he feels right at home.
He says he was able to adapt quickly. The club has been great and my team-mates welcomed me in a great way.
He and Dejan Kulusevski arrived together. "That made it a lot easier," he says, describing the Swede as a "great player" who has "exploded" at Spurs ahead of his expected return from injury.
He did not have as much continuity there as he has here. He is a good one-on-one player. He has been able to adapt to Harry and Son. The front three are amazing.
During the summer, Bentancur and his girlfriend, Melany, welcomed a baby girl. He insists that his own adjustment to the league has not been easy.
He says the first week was hard. The speed, the rhythm, the intensity, the strength of the players The level I was used to was completely different.
He's thankful to Antonio Conte for giving him a chance.
Bentancur has started 28 of 31 games since his full debut in a 2-0 win over Wolves in February.
He says Antonio started him in games immediately after he arrived. The best way to adapt is with minutes on the pitch.
He approaches his job with dedication.
Bentancur's appetite for self- improvement is evident in the revelation that he "hardly slept" after Wednesday's frenetic 3-2 win over Eintracht. He says that is normal for him. I am always on top of things.
It can be seen in his decision to bring Daniel Fernandez, a family friend who has acted as his personal trainer, with him from Italy to England.
He says that he is his father's best friend.
When I arrived here, we worked on the physical aspects. My performances are also analysed by him. The good and bad passes.
We don't do a lot of physical work in this period because it's more about recovery. Those details are important to me.
The work we do is to help me get better.
The biggest driver of Bentancur's improvement at Spurs has been the experience he had in Italy, where he won three Serie A titles, under a manager who loved his tactical intelligence and defensive skills.
Bentancur says that Italy was the best option for him because of its defensive and tactical prowess.
It helped me a lot when I arrived at a team with another Italian coach.
I have improved my intensity and my ability to attack. I think I'm a better person in those areas. Being a footballer is constantly learning.
"He wants to get 100 per cent out of every player all the time, and there are no let ups in how hard he pushes them," says Bentancur.
He doesn't relax for a second and he doesn't allow us to relax either. I believe that is one of the most important things about him
Bentancur thinks that Antonio is a manager who wants to win and is very motivating. He is one of the few football managers that I know.
It's on the bench. He's in the game a lot. He doesn't let us relax for a second. I think that is the most important thing about him.
"After that, he has given an identity to the team that we didn't have before, and I think we are showing the benefits of that this season." All of us want to win.
He is my manager.
Bentancur and Hojbjerg are charged with getting them playing, but also breaking up play and harrying opponents.
Meeting Conte's demands was all that was needed.
He likes his players to be in a good position. I do it very well, and I have learned that. It is my biggest strength. He likes what he sees about me.
He wants us to always press and not allow the opposition to have easy access to the ball.
He wants us to enjoy ourselves when we can. We have been doing that.
Spurs sit third in the premier league table and top of their group heading into Saturday's game with Everton, which is live on Sky Sports, but their progress was tragically interrupted last week by the death of a popular member.

Bentancur said he was a good person. He helped us a lot in the short time we shared with him. It was a big blow for all of us to know that he was giving advice to someone else.
He should rest in peace. Our victories will be for him.
Several Spurs players have spoken in glowing terms about Ventrone, but few embody the Italian's "no-limits" philosophy like Bentancur.
He was one of only three players in the league to run more than 13 km in a single game last season, the other being his teammate Kulusevski.
"I am a player who likes to run more during games than in training," he says with a smile. We worked so hard in the pre-season that now you can see the benefits.
Bentancur and Kulusevski aren't the only ones that have large distances.
As a group, Spurs have covered more ground than any other team in the league this season.
Bentancur says that all of that is thanks to the man. We feel better in the second half of games. He was a great person and will be in our hearts forever.
Bentancur has both physical and mental strengths. He described his winning mentality as one of his best qualities. Where is it coming from?
He thinks playing for a team like Boca Juniors, one of the best teams in South America, teaches you that. I walked into the club full of legends who were winning everything and continued to win things.
As young players in South America, we are brought up in a similar way. Football is a game we are taught to play, but you have to win. Is it more than just a game. He smiles. We grew up with that mentality.
It is one of the reasons why Bentancur is so important to Spurs. He says he's happy in his personal life and he thinks that shows on the field.
It is about continuing in the same way.
You can watch the game on Sky Sports from 4.30pm.
