Coffee, sodas, snacks, and basic groceries can be found at the Shell station on London's southwest side. There is one thing that is not on offer. The station has been all-electric since January, with the old gas pumps replaced by 10 rapid charging stations. Istvan Kapitany, who oversees Shell's global retail operations, says that it gives them a glimpse into the future.

Shell has over 46,000 stations in 80 countries. The goal is to get feedback on what works while laying the groundwork to hit a target of net-zero emissions by the year 2050. Shell has an additional 95,000 branded charging points in places such as garage and office parks. It wants to hit half a million by the year 2025.
